Hello KIRC Family! Are you ready to care for your parents?
That is the question we are putting on the table for the next Sunday Coffee Chat & Support, hosted by Keeping It REAL Caregiving.
It has been a bit since our last gathering so I am looking forward to connecting with everyone in our virtual world!
Consider this somewhat of an impromptu session. How did it come about?
I was chatting with a friend and colleague here in Northern California, and she expressed some trepidation at the reality that she will likely be tasked with caring for her aging parents.
Like many of us who began this journey, our brains were spinning with questions:
What should we do?
How do we find help?
Can I afford help?
What about my own life?
What might the next two, five, 10 years - or beyond, look like?
I remember that feeling of overwhelm when the reality of being a caregiver to my mother settled in over me. It was the experience of caring for Miss Nellie in her final years that inspired me to create Keeping It REAL Caregiving - for just this reason!

Hope you’ll join me and our special guest Teri DuBose - a Northern California community leader, a woman I like to call a ‘mover and shaker,’ and she is also a mother and daughter now thinking about her role in being there for her mom and dad.
We’ll catch up on some latest news from the world of family caregiving, then dive into our chat.
So grab your favorite cup of java (or tea), jump online, and join others for a casual chat to share information, lend an ear, offer up support and well… simply be there for one another!
I would also like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to the entire KIRC family of subscribers! It means the world to me that you are part of this journey. I know how difficult family caregiving can be - AND - I understand it can be a tough topic to talk about unless you absolutely MUST.
But, as I like to say, ‘We are all in this together,’ and sometimes the help and guidance from others going through this can provide support and solutions.
Call to Action
Keeping It REAL Caregiving is putting out a ‘call for help’ for a KIRC member based in New Jersey. He is a spousal caregiver, and has faced some pretty serious challenges in getting adequate care for his wife, figuring out how to cover expenses, all while trying to keep his own life afloat. Here’s an excerpt from his world of caring for his wife:
…She's had two month- long hospital stays between April and July.
- Three weeks ago, attorneys who took forever to begin with to gather records regarding the fall in a rehab center and Permanent DISABILITY as a result....Refused her case!
-The second of those month long stays ended July 11, and she returned two days ago with pneumonia returned!
-When she is hospitalized, I have no paycheck from the state…
Let’s get this man some help!
I NEED ANY AND ALL AGENCY LEADERS WITHIN THE FIELD OF AGING who are following this newsletter, to PLEASE reach out to me so I can connect you with this caregiver - explore all options for providing assistance, additional support or a plan of action that might help. THANKS!
See you Sunday and…
Until next time~
