Hello KIRC fam~
Welcome aboard to our newest members and THANK YOU for the continued support! Your ongoing involvement reminds me of why it is so important to stay the course with this work. If you do nothing else today, PLEASE make a call to your Senators, and share this post with as many others as you can!
This is a short update and it is directly shared from Justice in Aging.
If you care at all about the health and well-being and future care of not only your loved ones, but other human beings, make these calls today!
This is not hypothetical. This goes much deeper than Red or Blue voting. This bill and subsequent cuts would impact thousands of individuals and families all across the country. (Ironically, many of those hit hardest would be in states and regions which overwhelming voted red, but EVERYONE would be impacted.)
FROM JUSTICE IN AGING
The Senate is voting TODAY on the largest cuts to Medicaid and SNAP in history. We need everyone to call their Senators and Representative at 202-224-3121 and tell them to reject this bill.
Over the weekend, the Senate has made the already dangerous budget reconciliation bill even worse. The so called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” or OBBBA would slash well over a trillion dollars in funding from Medicaid, Medicare, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)—all to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.
As a result, at least 17 million people, including older adults, would have their health and long-term care stripped away and millions of people could be cut off from food assistance. Older adults are at risk of having both Medicaid and SNAP taken away. In addition, more than 300 rural hospitals and more than 500 nursing homes could be forced to close, taking access to care from everyone in those communities.
The fight is not over! Republicans in both the Senate and the House are struggling to secure enough votes for this bill. They need to hear from their constituents that they should reject this bill.
Call your Senators today! Tell them to vote no on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act because it will harm older adults by taking away Medicaid and SNAP and undermining Medicare. Don’t wait! Call your Senators today at 202-224-3121.
Until next time~
