Making the Healthcare System Work Better for You - Where and How You Get Your Care
Part II of California Black Health Network's 'How Do I...' Campaign
Hello KIRC fam~
A quick Saturday morning message to pass along details of an upcoming virtual event. Mark your calendars for this coming Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
But first - a big WELCOME to our new members and a special THANK YOU to continued and returning family members and those of you with paid subscriptions - you are appreciated!!!
You know, the topic of caregiving touches most every single one of us, but it continues to be one of those issues that most folks don’t want to think about, talk about, plan for, or otherwise engage with until they absolutely MUST!
I venture to guess more people know about the goings-on of Taylor Swift or the latest dance trend on Tik Tok, rather than know the differences between Medicare and Medicaid, or what to do if they or an aging loved one needs care.
That is why I keep plugging away with KIRC; my one-woman effort to gather and share info - hoping this platform helps you, someone you know…someone you love.
Please consider supporting the work by upgrading to a paid subscription. Even if there is ONE article that has touched you in some way, that support would be greatly appreciated!
Share with others if you believe there is info that can be useful.
Now, mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
The California Black Health Network is hosting what I know will be a great event. It is the latest installment in the “How Do I…” Campaign.
After spending many years caring for my mother, and seeing other individuals aging and being cared for, I am a big supporter of taking greater control over our own health and well-being.
That starts with understanding our own health - and how it fits into the current systems and delivery of care.
Making the Healthcare System Work Better for You, Part II: Where and How You Get Your Care.
Date/Time:
Sep 17, 2025 02:30 (Pacific)
Description:
Join CBHN and Dr. Melissa Clarke for the “Making the Healthcare System work Better for You...” Part II webinar series. In Session 4, “Where and How You Get You Care”, participants will learn about the schedule of preventative visits at every age, when yo use the Emergency Department, and if you are hospitalized, how to survive a hospital stay. Dr. Melissa Clarke is the author of “Excuse Me, Doctor. I’ve got WHAT?!”, a roadmap for how to be a smart healthcare consumer and understanding why now it is more important than ever to take control of your health and healthcare. Dr. Clarke is also a TedX/Keynote Speaker, Health Show Host, Thought Leader, Physician, Educator and Population Health Expert.
What’s happening…
Keeping It REAL Caregiving is proud and excited to have joined as a member organization of the California Black Health Network!
Keeping It REAL Caregiving(me - Julia) is now officially a volunteer with AARP Washington State!
KIRC is working on updating the website to include ‘resources’ and ‘services’ pages! (Hey, if you are a whiz with AVADA Wordpress - send me a message - I have questions!!) -
Now more than ever it is important for all of us to understand the health, aging, and caregiving landscape - AND - remain situationally aware at all times.
As KIRC moves forward and continues to determine the viability of continuing this work (yes, that is an unapologetically appeal to support KIRC with a paid subscription)…
…I will seek to wrap up each installment with an inspiring quote.
“Never be limited by other people’s limited imaginations.” ~ Mae C. Jemison
Until next time~
Julia
