Hello KIRC fam!

Updates & Opportunities
Caring Across Communities Partners with Power Saver Rewards
As mentioned earlier, Keeping It REAL Caregiving has launched a non-profit division to our work: Caring Across Communities.
The goal is to team up with other agencies and offer outreach programs. Our first initiative is working with Power Saver Rewards here in California. And I’m thrilled to share some AWESOME news for today, Thursday, June 6th!
For those of you in Northern California (and beyond, thanks to digital access), if you visited the Chico Enterprise-Record website today, you may have noticed that Power Saver Rewards was all over the site with their signature orange and teal lightning bolts and important message that applies to us all.
This is part of an effort to show local communities across California that Power Saver Rewards is available to all of us, and it doesn’t reside in one exclusive area or group.
We’re proud to partner with Power Saver Rewards this year. When you register for Power Saver Rewards at PowerSaverRewards.org, you can get a credit on your energy bill when you reduce energy use during a Flex Alert. Those savings add up over time, especially if we’ve had multiple Flex Alerts.
Flex Alerts, usually in effect from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. when the weather is extremely hot and there’s a lot of demand for energy but not enough supply, tell you when to reduce your energy use to help prevent a power outage.
If you haven’t registered for Power Saver Rewards, go to PowerSaverRewards.org and take two minutes to sign up today so you’re prepared when or if there’s a Flex Alert this summer.
Caring Across Communities will host several upcoming events in the Chico, Butte County region in the coming weeks/months. Our first outing at the Thursday Night Chico Farmers’ Market was a success and there will be more! I’ll keep you posted!

Calling all caregivers looking to learn and make a difference
American Society on Aging - ASA Rise Fellowship Applications Now Open
Many of you remember Keeping It REAL Caregiving’s Julia Yarbough was selected as a member of the first cohort of the American Society on Aging ASA Rise Fellowship Program. It was an incredible learning experience which has opened the door to many new opportunities of working within the aging space while helping others.
Are YOU someone who wants to make a difference in this field? Well, now is your chance! Applications are now open for the ASA Rise Fellowship Program.
Overview
The field of aging needs more leaders of color—and a modern, sustainable leadership program to support them. Aging in the United States has never been an equitable experience across the barriers of economic and social justice. Exacerbating this issue is the fact that those who can best drive the change we need are often the people who were raised, live and work in the communities most affected by these inequities. And so, much too often, the same inequities and lack of justice that require our response are those that prevent the most qualified people from having access to lead that response.
