Did you know?
Access to regular meals can sometimes be a challenge for some elders. For those of you in California, you may not know the state works with local Area Agencies on Aging to offer the Congregate Meals Program and the Home-Delivered Meals Program.
Those over 60 years old may be eligible for these food programs, as well as nutrition screening services.
You can find out about what is offered in your county, by visiting or calling the Area Agency on Aging for your county.

Have a great idea designed to benefit and uplift our aging community?
You still have some time (a little over a week) to submit an application for the AARP Community Improvement Projects.
Here’s part of the project description: The AARP Community Challenge’s focus on tangible projects, community engagement and its quick-action timeline helps selected grantees fast-track ideas and replicate promising practices. Previous projects have demonstrated an ability to garner additional funds or support from public and private funders, encourage innovation, overcome local policy barriers, and receive greater overall awareness and engagement.
And if you haven’t done so, KIRC encourages you to get an AARP membership! You don’t have to wait until you’re 55 to take advantage of all the information, resources and planning tools, many of which are FREE!

Need a roadmap of steps to take NOW to plan for the years ahead? Remember, you don’t have to wait until you or a loved one is older to begin thinking about and preparing for aging.
The SCAN Foundation offers this great tool - the “10 Things You Can Do” checklist. You can find the checklist here.

What our readers are sharing…
Patricia~ I started taking care of an elderly woman 2 years ago. My 1st time doing it. Also started at the beginning of a huge life transition of my own. Caring for this lady has helped me grow as a person and honestly, she’s done more for me than I could ever do for her and she doesn't even know it. Maybe I'll tell her one day soon what a huge roll she has played in my growth.
KIRC~ That is wonderful to hear. You should TELL HER NOW - one never knows what tomorrow brings. I bet it would warm her heart to have you share that. What a wonderful experience!
And finally...
Keeping it REAL Caregiving invites you to join us in lending support to the people of Ukraine under the assault of the Russian invasion. I would love to hit a goal of $5-thousand dollars from our KIRC family alone. Will you chip in??
KIRC reached out the American Red Cross asking how we can help.
You can make a tax-deductibe donation right here, with funds going directly to the American Red Cross. If you missed our previous articles check them out here:
