Keeping It REAL Caregiving (me, Julia Yarbough), would like to wish our entire KIRC family a very happy, safe, and restorative Thanksgiving holiday!
My wish for all of you is that you are able to set aside even a few minutes for yourself to be with your thoughts. Take a moment to reflect on the items you are thankful for.
As family caregivers, sometimes finding that moment for personal ‘space’ may feel impossible. I get it. I lived it.
Within the flurry of chores, responsibilities, and emotional toll that can often come with caregiving, I believe we absolutely MUST allow ourselves a moment to identify and focus on the good — the reasons why you are thankful.
We owe it to ourselves to find something - any little item - in order to feel gratitude. Try it. You might be surprised at how it helps refocus your attitude.
I’ll get us started…
I am thankful for…
The opportunity to wake up each morning with good health, in a safe home, surrounded by the beauty of mother nature.
This life journey that has brought a fair share of ups, downs, good and even bad - but all moments which taught me valuable life lessons.
Fate putting me in the role of family caregiver, which taught me patience and by default, the ability to have more empathy for others.
For friends the world over; some of whom taught me (and you know who you are…) that caring for Mrs. Nellie Yarbough was something special - that “I get to care for my mother, not I have to care for my mother.”
I am thankful I believe my journey, and sharing words of wisdom from others, is making a positive difference for all the many family caregivers yet to come.
Care to share some of the items you are thankful for? Drop them in the comment box - lets toss out some Thanksgiving grace for one another!
Have a wonderful, safe, and happy Thanksgiving holiday!
Until next time~
Julia
